Suzanne “Suzy” Starr is a South Dakota native and a highly regarded Family Law Attorney. She earned her BS in Business Administration from Black Hills State University and later received an Associate’s Degree from National American University. In 1999, she graduated from the University of South Dakota School of Law. After serving as a clerk for the South Dakota Supreme Court in 2000, Suzy began her practice in Spearfish, South Dakota, where she focused on family law issues such as divorce, child custody, and child support. In 2010, she transitioned to the State of South Dakota's Unified Judicial System in Pierre, where she served as the Director of Policy and Legal Services, overseeing various statewide programs, including the Child Support Referee program and the Rural Attorney Recruitment Program. In 2023, she returned to private practice, finding fulfillment as a Divorce Attorney and Family Court Attorney, assisting clients with divorce proceedings and child custody matters.
Suzy's practice has a general focus with a strong emphasis on family law, including adoption and spousal support cases. She is admitted to practice in all South Dakota state courts as well as the Federal Court for the District of South Dakota. A dedicated member of the South Dakota Bar Association since 2000, she has also served as a Commissioner for the State Bar.
